Africa CDC Reports Malaria Deaths Down 54% Since 2019 β Vaccine Rollout & Bed Net Distribution Drive Historic Progress
The Africa CDC Annual Health Security Report 2026 shows malaria deaths on the continent have fallen 54% since 2019, from 533,000 to 246,000 annually β the steepest seven-year decline since records began in 1950. The R21/Matrix-M vaccine and mass net distributions are credited as the primary drivers.
