Director Kagiso Lediga's film "Soweto Summer" has won the Palme d'Or at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival — the first African film to receive the honour since Ousmane Sembène's work in the 1990s. The film, shot in Soweto over 22 days on a $400,000 budget, has already sold distribution rights in 71 countries.

Lagos Fashion Week 2026 concluded on Sunday as the most commercially successful fashion event in African history, with buyers from 28 countries placing $180 million in wholesale orders during the four-day event. African luxury label Pepper Row received a €15 million acquisition offer from LVMH on the final day.

Leti Arts, the Ghanaian-Kenyan gaming studio behind the "Africa's Legends" franchise, has been valued at $500 million following a partnership announcement with Microsoft's Xbox Game Studios.
